Common factors in neighbor disputes

On Behalf of | Apr 28, 2018 | Neighbor Disputes |

Whether you are a seasoned homeowner or a brand-new homeowner in Washington State, you will no doubt come to learn that getting along with your neighbors is not always as easy as you would wish. Sometimes you will get lucky and develop a close and lifelong friendship with the people near you. Other times, however, you and your neighbors will find yourselves with competing interests. Resolving those situations can get tricky.

As explained by Zillow, issues surrounding fencing or other types of designated boundary lines between properties may well be at the heart of more disputes that any other factor. One situation that may increase the likelihood of such a dispute is when a property has not had an official surveying done in a long time and especially when it has passed ownership from one person to another in a family after a death. Records in these situations get fuzzy as they often rely on lore, not fact.

While trees may be one of the Pacific Northwest’s most treasured things, they can also be the cause of angst between neighbors. Trees that are messy or pose risks of falling in storms can be issues of contention as can trees that block desired views.

If you would like to learn more about the factors that may be involved in a dispute with a neighbor and how you can get help to seek appropriate resolution, please feel free to visit the boundary line concerns page of our Washington State real estate website.
